Abandoned House

This piece is of a house I saw one when me and my mom were driving around one day. I have always loved pictures of old buildings, so when I saw this quaint little house that was overgrown with trees and weeds, and had rust growing on any available space I knew I knew I had to paint it. The house looked like it had been much loved once upon a time, and I wanted to convey that threw my painting despite the neglect the house has been given in recent times.

I started the painting by doing a gray watercolor was with a blue tint for the sky, and for the ground I did a very faint brown wash, while the house I did an extremely light grey wash. I started to adding details to the house by adding different values of gray to the siding of the house with a wet on wet technique. To do the rust on the roof of the house I mixed red and brown paint together and then after i put in on the roof I would dab it with a paper towel so it would be very light where I needed it to , and then went back with the same color but did not put the paper towel on it so it would be dark where I needed it to. For the leaves on the tree I used very little water to do the trunk and then went back and added different values of brown , for the leaves I took a small round brush and dabbed it on where I wanted my leaves to be. For the bottom I added different values of brown and red-brown with a wet on wet technique and a flat brush.

Twist on American Gothic

While I was in Ashville over the summer there were vast amounts of art every where you went, every corner you turned down, every building, bridge, restaurant, pretty much had some type of art in it or on it. While walking in downtown Asheville i saw a picture with a girl holding a bouquet of flowers where her head would be, and this is where I got part of the inspiration for the girl in my piece. I have always been into surrealism pieces of art because it allows you  to create something unique and different that is completely your own. I feel that you can express a lot through surrealism. In my piece you cans see the bodies of the man and woman from American Gothic, but instead of heads the woman has flowers, because flowers are supposed to be frail and pretty, and that is how society views women, but flowers can flourish anywhere they are planted and women seem to have a talent to thrive in whatever conditions are thrown at them , the man has a balloon to his head, because guys can be kind of like airheads at times, and full of hot air.

To make this piece i did a dark blue background for where the water is, I did approximately 30 layers. I painted the clothes of the people next, to get the design on the woman's dress i used the smallest round brush i could find, this was probably one of the hardest things to do, because it was so tedious. The hand and shading of the hand was also hard due to the shading. Overall the piece was enjoyable and pretty easy.

Car Bumper Reflection

I was inspired to draw this piece because I wanted to draw something different from everyone else. I had just got home one afternoon from a practice and I was looking at my car and in the bumper I saw the reflection of the sunset. I thought it would be a easy picture to draw, but a pretty one so I picked it, but it ended up testing me much more than I thought, proving itself to be a much trickier than I had assumed.

I started the picture by outlining everything with pecil lightly so it did not look cartoon. Then i colored in the spots that I saw the negative space. The easiest thing about the piece was coloring in the value of the sunset, and the hardest was making it look real enough for people to tell what it was.

Kane

I picked to depict Kane the god of the earth to show in my tikki. I picked Kane, because I am very into nature and wanted to be ably to depict what I thought fitted the description of Kane. I also learned about Pacific island culture through doing this, and tested my ability to work with clay.

To start of we made the main body, then made a support at the bottom for it. Then we got to add different designs to the tikkis. I made vine like hair, and a partial crown of coconuts. The hardest part had to be the mouth, were I tried to make it look like a fish bone.

Tale of Two Cities

My inspiration for this was to show two different sides to a city. To show that there is a clean nice looking part of a city were everyone wants to go, but also there is a overlooked part where people have to live that is overgrown and ignored by many people. I also wanted to test my abilities on how well I could draw to scale two point perspective.

To start for this I drew the horizon line, and the two dots. Then I made sure all my lines were either horizontal or connecting to a point. The hardest part was doing the lines for the bricks because they were so small and tedious.

Elements and Principles

Quite honestly my whole inspiration for this piece was just to learn more about the elements and principles. I also always thought pictures with the same thing drawn a whole bunch of different ways was really cool, and i am glad i got to make a piece like it. This really tested me to see different ways to illustrate the elements and principles.

To start I outlined the mouth on the whole elements side. The hardest thing was to outline the mouth without making it crooked and messing up. My favorite design on the element side was shape. My favorite design on the principle side was movement.
